18. St John's, Barrow Island 18 May 2012

It was great to return to St John's with our new programme, with a Kathleen Ferrier theme to the first half.  It's amazing how many Cumbrian connections there are to this great contralto! Even the younger members of the audience was attentive to Deborah's reading, which concentrated on the earlier part of Ferrier's musical career. After the interval (great refreshments, ladies!) we sang some of our modern repertoire, including Whitacre's Seal Lullaby, which is now a firm favourite! The second reading also proved very popular - it was from The Summer Book by Tove Jansson.

Many thanks to Val, Rev. Sheila and all at St John's for the warm welcome, the lovely audience and also the generously-proportioned box of chocs!

What a merry choir we are! Thanks Julie, for taking pictures at this concert.

At our northerly latitude, there was still enough sunshine after our concert to take this snap of St John's, with its unusual 1930s design, inspired by buildings in Nazareth.
